When I first started, I didn't know what Kundalini was, let alone how to awaken it. I sat down and followed what my Guru taught me, and over the weeks that followed, the signs built gradually as my blockages cleared.
That first quiet session is where my journey actually began. Here is how to begin yours gently, safely and without forcing anything.
What Does It Mean to Awaken Kundalini?
Awakening Kundalini means the spiritual energy resting at the base of your spine begins to stir and rise, reconnecting you with the Divine. You'll also hear it called activating Kundalini; it's the same thing.
The simplest explanation I know came from my Guru, VillyMa.
Think of a lamp. The electricity exists and the lamp exists, but without a cord plugging one into the other, there is no light.
Kundalini is the cord that connects you to the Divine. Awakening it means that cord begins to reconnect, and you start to consciously feel something that was always there: peace, stillness, love and joy.
When your Kundalini awakens, it rises through your chakras toward the crown of your head. You don't need to belong to any religion to practice this. Kundalini is not a belief system; it's an experience available to people of every faith and none.

Can Anyone Awaken Kundalini?
Yes. You may have heard that awakening means giving up everything, moving to a cave in the Himalayas and meditating for 30 years. It is far from necessary, and I came to this knowing nothing about Kundalini.
What VillyMa showed me is far simpler. Kundalini is already within you, resting at the base of your spine. It isn't something you have to earn; it's something you reconnect with.
You don't need prior experience with meditation, yoga or Kundalini. What you do need is a little patience, a quiet place and a willingness to show up each day.
What Stops Kundalini From Rising? Blocked Chakras and Channels
Blocked chakras and channels stop Kundalini from rising freely. Kundalini rises along three energy channels running up your spine, passing through seven main energy centers called chakras. For it to reach the crown, those channels and chakras need to be clear.
The challenge is that they become blocked easily. Painful life experiences and strong emotions such as anger, fear, guilt, shame and resentment can leave energetic blockages behind. Those blockages keep Kundalini from reconnecting with the Divine at the crown.
That's why the Satya Awakening Technique™ doesn't just try to "push energy up". It is designed to do three things, in this order:
- Awaken. Gently stir the dormant energy at the base of your spine.
- Clear. Soften the blockages in your chakras and channels so there is a clear path.
- Raise. Allow Kundalini to rise through that path to the crown.

How to Awaken Kundalini: 7 Gentle Steps
You awaken Kundalini with seven gentle steps: prepare a quiet place, sit upright, drop expectations, guide your attention up through your chakras, add sacred sound and intention, allow what arises, and practice daily. This is the approach VillyMa taught me and the one I now share. It isn't the full guided technique (that's best experienced with guidance, chakra by chakra), but it is the honest foundation of your practice.
Step 1: Find a quiet place
Choose somewhere you can sit for about 30 minutes without your phone, computer or other people interrupting you. If you can, sit in the same spot each day, at about the same time. Over time, simply sitting down in that spot can help your mind settle more quickly.
Step 2: Sit comfortably with your spine upright
Sit on a chair with your feet on the ground, or cross-legged on a cushion. What matters is that your spine is vertical, supported and comfortable. VillyMa's guidance is to keep it straight and upright, so the energy can flow smoothly along its path.
Step 3: Let go of expectations
This step matters more than it sounds. One of the biggest mistakes you can make at the start is having a fixed idea of what awakening is supposed to feel like. Don't sit down expecting a lightning bolt up your spine, visions or bliss. Some people feel something powerful straight away. Often, the signs build gradually as your blockages clear.
Approach every session with curiosity rather than expectation. Your experience will be uniquely your own.
Step 4: Use your attention gently
There's an old principle: where attention goes, energy flows. In this practice, you can say where attention goes, Kundalini flows.
Starting at the base of your spine, gently rest your attention on each chakra in turn, moving slowly upward toward the top of your head. No straining, no visualizing fireworks. Just place your attention and allow.
Step 5: Bring in a sacred sound and a sincere intention
The Satya Awakening Technique™ uses a mantra and simple affirmations as you move through your chakras. A mantra is a sacred sound repeated with attention; an affirmation here is closer to a sincere prayer, a request for Kundalini to awaken the highest quality of each center.
I won't reproduce the full sequence here, because it works best when you're guided through it in real time. But even on your own, you can sit with a quiet, sincere intention to connect with the Divine.
Step 6: Allow whatever arises, then let it pass
You may feel warmth or coolness, tingling, emotion, old memories, or inner light and imagery. Or the signs may build more quietly. All of it is okay. Don't suppress emotion, don't chase sensations and don't analyze every flicker.
If anything feels uncomfortable, simply open your eyes, breathe normally, feel your body and pause. You are always in control.
Step 7: Practice daily and give it at least 10 sessions
One session tells you very little. Practice once a day, ideally at about the same time, for at least 10 days before you judge anything. Don't measure progress only by what happens during the session. Notice what happens after: are you a little calmer, quieter, less reactive, more present?

What If Kundalini Doesn't Awaken Right Away?
If Kundalini doesn't awaken right away, keep practicing: the signs build gradually as your blockages clear. That is exactly how my own journey began.
When VillyMa taught me the Satya Awakening Technique™, I didn't understand Kundalini or chakras. I had no idea what was supposed to happen. That first quiet session was simply the beginning.
But I kept practicing, and over the weeks and months that followed, something unfolded that changed my life (I describe that day here).
I share that not so you'll expect the same thing, but so you'll know this: Often, your chakras simply need more clearing before the first signs become obvious.
A quiet start doesn't mean it isn't working.

How Do You Know It's Working?
You'll know Kundalini practice is working through quiet signs as much as dramatic ones. Here are some you may notice in the early weeks. None are required, and none are a scorecard.
- Physical sensations. Tingling or gentle vibration in your hands, spine or top of your head, warmth or coolness, a feeling of lightness.
- A cool or warm breeze on your palms or above your head. Something this practice teaches you to notice over time. In VillyMa's teaching, warmth is a sign of blockages clearing, and coolness a sign of connection.
- Emotional release. Tears or laughter that come and go and leave you lighter.
- Stillness. Moments where your mind simply goes quiet.
- Quiet changes in daily life. More patience, more presence, situations that used to trigger you no longer doing so.
Don't compare your experience with anyone else's. If someone felt energy shoot up their spine on day one and you just felt relaxed, that's fine. Your journey is your own.

Mistakes to Avoid When Awakening Kundalini
Five mistakes get in the way of awakening Kundalini, and all of them are easy to avoid once you know them:
- Forcing it. If you feel energy moving in one session, don't try to force it to happen in the next. Your job is to show up, follow the guidance and allow.
- Chasing experiences. If you felt tingling yesterday, don't sit down today waiting for tingling. Every session is different.
- Judging each session. Don't decide after every sitting whether it "worked". Simply notice how you feel, then carry on.
- Skipping days. Consistency is far more important than intensity. One session a day beats an occasional marathon.
- Treating awakening as the finish line. It's the beginning, not the end. More on that below.
Is It Safe to Awaken Kundalini?
The Satya Awakening Technique™ is designed to let Kundalini awaken naturally and safely: gentle, guided, step by step, and based on allowing rather than forcing. When people say Kundalini can be dangerous, they're usually referring to forceful, unguided, intense practices. Even with a gentle practice, go at your own pace.
If experiences ever feel overwhelming, pause your practice, rest and give yourself time to integrate before you continue.

How Long Does It Take to Awaken Kundalini?
Kundalini can begin to stir the very first time you practice, or the first signs can take more repetition to become obvious. There is no fixed timetable, and I won't invent one.
Here is what I can tell you with certainty: consistency matters more than intensity. A gentle session every day, done sincerely, is worth more than one dramatic weekend. Give it at least 10 sessions, then keep going. There's no deadline here: this isn't a race to win or a goal to accomplish.
What Comes After You Awaken Kundalini?
Awakening Kundalini is the beginning, not the end. Here's the part I wish someone had told me at the start: my first experiences didn't last on their own.
After Kundalini awakening comes a path of four stages, Awakening, Clearing, Integration and Surrender, leading to lasting Union with the Divine. Together they form the Satya Awakening System™.
Awakening is where the journey begins. Through the gentle, guided practice of the Satya Awakening Technique™, we gently, and safely awaken our Kundalini and begin the journey of reconnecting with the Divine.
Clearing is where we begin working through the energetic obstructions within our chakras that limit our connection with the Divine. As these obstructions gradually clear, we experience that connection more deeply and consistently.
Integration is about bringing that spiritual connection into everyday life, so that peace, love, oneness and awareness of the Divine become more than extraordinary experiences during meditation. They begin to influence our entire experience of daily life.
Surrender is about learning to let go of the need to control or force our spiritual progress, allowing our connection with the Divine to deepen through trust, devotion and surrender.
Each stage builds upon the previous one, with its own practices to guide us forward, until we ultimately reach the destination toward which the entire journey is pointing: Union with the Divine.
So when you learn how to awaken Kundalini, you're not learning a trick. You're taking the first step on a path toward Union with the Divine. Everything else on that path, from what Kundalini is to what comes after, is gathered in my Kundalini guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I awaken Kundalini on my own?
Yes, you can begin on your own, and the gentle steps above are a good place to start. In my experience, though, a clear technique and experienced guidance make the journey far easier, especially if experiences become intense. I didn't understand any of this until VillyMa taught me.
What is Kundalini activation?
Kundalini activation is another name for Kundalini awakening: the dormant spiritual energy at the base of your spine begins to stir and rise through the chakras toward the crown. With the Satya Awakening Technique™, for example, activation is gentle: Kundalini is awakened, your blockages are cleared and the energy is raised through guided practice, never by force.
What is the safest way to awaken Kundalini?
The safest approach is to gently clear the energetic blockages within your chakras first, rather than forcing Kundalini to awaken. Sit upright, move your attention slowly through your chakras, never force or strain, and stop if anything feels uncomfortable. Avoid intense breathwork and other aggressive, unguided practices that try to force Kundalini upward. Consistency matters far more than intensity, so one gentle session a day beats an occasional long one.
What if I start crying during practice?
Let the tears come. Emotion, from sadness to joy, gratitude or even laughter, can rise during practice, sometimes for no obvious reason. In the Satya Awakening System teaching, this is understood as a good sign: Kundalini releasing emotional blockages you've held for years. Don't suppress it, judge it or analyze it. Simply allow it to pass.
Do I need to be religious to awaken Kundalini?
No. Kundalini is not a religion and requires no belief system. Whether you call it God, the Universe or the Divine, or have no faith at all, the practice is the same: gently reconnecting with the peace, stillness and love that are already within you.
With love,
Caleb
