You've probably arrived here with a question you're half afraid to ask: is this happening to me?
Maybe you've been meditating, or doing yoga or breathwork. Maybe something began to stir with no practice at all. Wherever you're starting from, you're welcome here.
The quiet signs matter just as much as the dramatic ones. So before you start checking yourself against a list, let me explain what the signs of Kundalini awakening really are, and how to read them wisely.
What Are the Signs of Kundalini Awakening?
Kundalini awakening is the awakening of the inner connection between you and the Divine. My Guru, VillyMa, explains Kundalini with a simple image. Imagine a cord that plugs a lamp into its power source. Well, Kundalini is the cord that plugs us into our power source, which is the Divine. As we become connected, we notice profound inner experiences and sensations, and changes in our sense of who we are.
The experiences that can arise tend to fall into five groups:
- Physical sensations: tingling, warmth, vibration, pressure, lightness
- Emotional release: tears, laughter, sudden waves of feeling
- Thoughts and memories: old memories and people surfacing in awareness
- Inner lights and imagery: colors, flashes of light, symbols
- Spiritual signs: stillness, peace, love, bliss and oneness

Physical Signs of Kundalini Awakening
Physical sensations are one of the most common things people notice. They can come during meditation, yoga or breathwork, while you're resting or falling asleep, or out of nowhere in the middle of an ordinary day. You might experience:
- Warmth or coolness, sometimes in one spot, like the palms or above the head, and sometimes moving through your whole body
- Tingling in the hands, feet, spine or around the chakra centers, often like a gentle buzzing or a soft electrical current
- Vibration, subtle or throughout your whole body, sometimes felt as pulsing or waves
- Energy moving up your spine, from a gentle, warm current rising slowly upward to a powerful wave that surges from the base of your spine toward your head
- Heaviness or unusual lightness
- Pressure or tension around your forehead, chest or throat
- Small spontaneous movements, like gentle swaying
I've felt many of these myself, including powerful waves of energy rising through my spine. But I've learned that the intensity of a sensation doesn't tell you how meaningful it is. Some of my most beautiful experiences have been moments of deep stillness, peace, love and Oneness. A sensation on its own isn't proof of awakening. What matters is the connection behind it.
In the Satya Awakening System teaching, temporary pressure or discomfort is understood as Kundalini meeting a blockage in a chakra. My advice is always the same: don't be frightened by these sensations, and don't chase them either. Stay relaxed and let them pass.

Emotional Signs of Kundalini Awakening
Sudden emotion can be a sign of Kundalini moving through blocked areas. You might feel sadness, joy, love, gratitude, anger or laughter. You may even start crying without knowing why.
In the Satya Awakening System teaching, this is Kundalini rising and dissolving emotional blockages you've held onto for years. Whatever you do, don't suppress it, judge it or try to work it out. Simply allow the emotion to come and go.
Thoughts and Memories Surfacing
Sometimes, as things begin to shift, your mind gets busier, not quieter. Old memories return. People you haven't thought about in years drift into your awareness.
When this happens during your practice, it's easy to assume something is wrong. It isn't. In the Satya Awakening System teaching, it's another sign of Kundalini moving through your chakras and releasing what you've been holding onto for years. Don't fight the thoughts and don't follow them. Notice them, and let them pass.
Spiritual Signs of Kundalini Awakening
Spiritual signs of Kundalini awakening are the signs of the connection itself. In the early stages they may feel like relaxation, stillness and peace; as your connection grows, they can deepen into love, Oneness, joy and bliss.
- Deep stillness. Your mind goes quiet and everything feels as it should be.
- Peace that doesn't depend on circumstances.
- Love as a state, far bigger than love for someone.
- Bliss and joy in simply being conscious.
- Oneness. The boundary between you and everything else softens.
- Inner light or colors, often linked to the third-eye chakra.
On the morning of my own awakening, I was walking to work through a park when an enormous feeling of Love began erupting inside me, bigger than anything I'd ever known. I sat down under a tree and stayed there all day. I never made it to the office. Nothing around me had changed. The happiness was coming from within me (I describe that day here).
A word about lights and visions: they can be encouraging, but don't become fascinated by them. They are not the objective. Reconnecting with the Divine is.

What Are the Quiet Signs of Kundalini Awakening?
Some of the most meaningful signs of Kundalini awakening don't arrive as sensations at all. They show up in your ordinary days.
Instead of asking "Did I feel Kundalini?", try asking:
- Am I becoming more peaceful and more present?
- Is my mind getting a little quieter?
- Do situations that used to trigger me affect me less?
- Do I feel more loving and connected toward other people?
- Am I noticing moments of calm or joy?
These changes are subtle, so they're easy to overlook. But they're every bit as meaningful as any dramatic experience. They're signs of your connection beginning to show up in your everyday life.
What If the Signs Are Slow to Appear?
For many people, the signs of Kundalini awakening build gradually as blockages clear. If you aren't noticing much yet, nothing is wrong. In the Satya Awakening System teaching, Kundalini rises and meets blockages in your chakras. As those blockages clear, the signs grow clearer and stronger. With the Satya Awakening Technique™, they often unfold over several sessions.
So don't measure your progress by the intensity of your experiences. Keep practicing gently, and notice what changes in your ordinary days too.
Are Kundalini Awakening Symptoms the Same for Everyone?
No. Kundalini awakening symptoms are different for every person and can change from one day to the next, so don't compare yours with anyone else's.
If somebody tells you they felt energy shooting up their spine, that doesn't mean you should. If someone sees brilliant colors and you see darkness, that's okay. If somebody cries and you feel peaceful, that's okay. If somebody experiences overwhelming bliss and you simply feel relaxed, that's okay too.
Your own experience will vary as well. One day may feel powerful and the next completely ordinary. Approach each one with curiosity rather than expectation, and let all of it be okay.
Are the Signs of Kundalini Awakening the Goal?
No. The signs of Kundalini awakening are not the goal, and this matters.
However beautiful these experiences are, they are not the objective. Reconnecting with the Divine, and ultimately living in Union, is the objective.
My own first experience faded (more on that here). The answer isn't to collect signs, but to let your blockages clear gently and let your connection deepen.

What Should You Do If Kundalini Symptoms Feel Overwhelming?
Pause and seek guidance whenever a Kundalini experience feels overwhelming, doesn't settle, or simply worries you. Kundalini symptoms can be gentle and pleasant, but not every experience is comfortable. When people warn that Kundalini can be dangerous, a lot of the problems they describe come from forceful approaches that awaken Kundalini without first clearing the blockages in its path. The Satya Awakening Technique™ is the opposite: gentle, guided and based on allowing, not forcing. If you're doing any practice and something feels uncomfortable, stop, open your eyes, breathe normally, feel your body and rest.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the first signs of Kundalini awakening?
Common first signs include tingling or warmth in the hands, feet or spine, subtle vibration, emotional release and moments of unusual peace. For some people, the first signs are quieter: feeling calmer, more present and less reactive in daily life. Others find the signs build gradually over several sessions.
What does Kundalini feel like in the spine?
You may feel warmth, tingling, a gentle current or pressure that rises from the base of your spine upward. Sometimes it's subtle, sometimes stronger. For me, there have been times it felt like energy erupting up my spine. Stay relaxed, don't force it, and let the sensation move naturally.
Is crying a sign of Kundalini awakening?
It can be. Sudden tears, laughter or waves of emotion can arise, and in the Satya Awakening System teaching they're understood as Kundalini releasing old emotional blockages. Allow the feeling to pass without judging it. My Guru, VillyMa, reminds us that this is all right. It's only tears, and they're part of the release.
What does a warm or cool breeze above the head mean?
In the Satya Awakening System teaching, both are good signs. A warm breeze above your head is understood as blockages leaving as Kundalini rises and clears your channel. A cool breeze is understood as Kundalini having risen through the crown along a clear channel, connecting you with the Divine. Neither is better. Simply notice it and let it be.
How long do Kundalini awakening symptoms last?
Individual sensations or experiences may last moments, hours or longer, and then pass. Every day can be different, so don't chase yesterday's experience. As blockages clear, the connection behind them can become steadier and more natural over time.
With love,
Caleb
