If you're shopping for a Kundalini awakening course, you've probably noticed how hard it is to tell the good from the bad. Some promise instant awakening; some promise extraordinary physical sensations; some are yoga classes; others use intense breathing techniques, and the descriptions don't always make it easy for you to know the right course to choose.
Here's how I'd choose one, honestly, including what I'd steer clear of.
A note before we begin: I offer a course on this website, the Kundalini Awakening Experience. I'll mention it near the end as one option among many, and I'll be upfront about it. The criteria below apply to every course, including ours.
What Is a Kundalini Awakening Course?
A Kundalini awakening course is a structured, guided program that teaches you a practice for awakening Kundalini, the spiritual energy at the base of your spine that connects us to the Divine, and helps you understand what you experience.
Courses range from short video programs you do at home, to live online classes, to in-person retreats and long teacher-training programs. Some are seated meditation; others are Kundalini Yoga, with postures and breathwork. Neither is "right"; they're simply different paths, so it helps you to know which one you're looking for.
| Course type | What it typically involves | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|
| Kundalini Yoga classes | Postures, breathwork, chanting and meditation | People who want a movement-based practice |
| Guided Kundalini meditation | Seated meditation with guided attention and awareness | People who prefer a quieter, seated approach |
| Live teacher-led programs | Live guided sessions, discussion and ongoing support | People who want personal contact with a teacher |
| Self-paced online courses | Recorded lessons and a guided home practice | Beginners who want flexibility at a low cost |
The Satya Awakening Technique™ is a guided, seated meditation that focuses on gently clearing the chakras so Kundalini can awaken naturally. On this website, it's taught as a self-paced online course you follow at home.

Do You Need a Course to Awaken Kundalini?
You don't need a course to awaken Kundalini, but you do need a clear technique and an experienced teacher to guide you. I know this from my own experience. I didn't understand Kundalini or the chakras until my Guru, VillyMa, taught me the Satya Awakening Technique™. Having her guidance was essential to my journey when experiences came that I didn't understand.
A good course doesn't just help you awaken your Kundalini. It gives you everything you need to fully understand your journey.
8 Things to Look For in a Kundalini Awakening Course
A good Kundalini awakening course, and a good Kundalini awakening teacher, share eight qualities. Here they are, in the order I'd check them.
1. A teacher who has awakened his/her own Kundalini
Ask: has this teacher experienced their own Kundalini awakening? Because only a person who has experienced their own awakening is experienced enough to help another person do the same. You should strongly avoid learning from any teacher who has not experienced their own Kundalini awakening.
2. A teacher from a credible lineage
Ask: who taught this teacher? Has this person awakened under the guidance of an enlightened Guru? Does this person openly honor the source of their teachings? If not, this may be a sign of a teacher who should not be trusted.
3. A strong emphasis on clearing your chakras
This is one of the most important things to look for. Kundalini must rise through energetic channels that run along the spine, passing through seven chakra energy centers. If your Kundalini encounters energetic blockages in these chakras, and cannot pass, your experience may become uncomfortable or overwhelming. That's why a good Kundalini awakening course should prioritize gently clearing the energetic blockages within your chakras before attempting to awaken Kundalini. The goal is to prepare your energy system so that Kundalini can awaken and rise naturally, supporting a gentle, balanced experience. Be especially cautious of techniques that attempt to force Kundalini upward without first clearing the chakras.
4. A gentle, allowing approach
Look for a practice that creates the conditions for Kundalini to awaken naturally rather than trying to force your energy upward. Words like gentle, guided, step by step and allow are good signs. Be cautious of anything that sounds dramatic and forceful.
5. A practice you can actually keep
Awakening is built through consistency, not one heroic weekend. A simple daily practice you'll really do is worth more than long, complicated routines you'll abandon by day four.
6. Honest expectations
A trustworthy course tells you that experiences vary, that you may feel very little at first, and that you shouldn't compare yourself to anyone else. A course that only promises fireworks sets you up to feel like a failure.
7. Help understanding your experiences
Tingling, emotion, memories, lights, stillness, bliss, or nothing at all: a good course explains what you may experience and what to do (and not do) when it happens. Not knowing what's going on inside you can be unsettling.
8. A view of what comes after awakening
This is the one that's easiest to overlook. Awakening is the beginning, not the end. A good teacher should be able to tell you what happens next: clearing your chakras, integrating the connection into your daily life, surrendering the desire to achieve Union, and ultimately Union with the Divine.

Red Flags: What to Avoid in a Kundalini Course
The clearest red flags in a Kundalini course are: lack of experience from the teacher, no emphasis on clearing the chakras first, and promises no one can keep. Watch for these:
- Teacher has not experienced Kundalini awakening. It's not safe to learn from inexperienced teachers.
- No emphasis on clearing the chakras first. Kundalini awakening should not be attempted unless the focus of the technique or method includes the clearing of blockages from the chakras.
- Guaranteed or instant awakening. No honest teacher can promise exactly what you'll experience, or when.
- Forceful, unguided techniques. When people say Kundalini can be dangerous, they're usually referring to forceful, unguided, intense practices that try to push energy up the spine aggressively before your energy system is ready.
- Medical promises. Be wary of any course claiming to cure or treat health conditions.
- A big financial commitment before you've tried anything. You should be able to try the practice at low cost or risk first.
- No refund or no support. If there's no guarantee and no one to ask, think twice.
- Dogma. Kundalini is not a religion. You shouldn't be asked to adopt a belief system to practice.

What Should You Ask Before Buying a Kundalini Course?
Ask six questions before you buy any Kundalini course or commit to any teacher:
- Who taught the teacher, and has the teacher experienced their own Kundalini awakening?
- Does the course focus on clearing the chakras before trying to awaken Kundalini?
- What exactly will I do each day, and for how long?
- What happens if I feel nothing, or if I feel too much?
- Is there a guarantee, and how do I reach someone with questions?
- Where does this lead after the first experiences?
If a course can answer all six clearly, that's a strong sign you're in good hands.
Online vs. In-Person Kundalini Courses
Online and in-person Kundalini courses can both serve you well; the real differences are cost, convenience and your contact with the teacher.
Online courses let you practice at home, at your own pace, usually at a lower cost. The best ones are fully guided, so you simply press play and follow along. The trade-off is less face-to-face contact.
In-person classes and retreats offer you the presence of a teacher and a group. They can be beautiful, but they cost more, take more time, and you still have to keep practicing at home afterward. For a beginner, I recommend starting with a short, low-risk online course. You can always go deeper later.
Who Taught Me to Guide Others Through Their Kundalini Awakening?
My Guru, VillyMa, taught me the Satya Awakening Technique™ and approved me as a Guide.
A few years ago, I knew absolutely nothing about Kundalini. I wasn't a yoga teacher or a spiritual expert. I was a stressed, anxious entrepreneur, a husband and a father, and one night, alone, I found myself begging God for help. That prayer eventually led me to VillyMa, an enlightened master who lives in Mumbai, India.
She taught me a simple practice. Then, on an ordinary Tuesday morning, on my walk to work, my Kundalini awakened. I was flooded with a peace and love so overwhelming that I sat down under a tree and stayed there all day. I never made it to the office (the full story is here).
My first big Kundalini awakening was extraordinary, and then it faded (what that taught me).
That's why I believe your first experience of Kundalini is not the end of the journey. It's your invitation to something so much greater. Any course I offer starts gently and always points beyond the first experience, toward Union with the Divine.
I share this technique not because I'm special, but because I was once searching too. If it happened to me, it can happen to you.
What Is the Kundalini Awakening Experience?
The Kundalini Awakening Experience is my own beginner course, and I hold it to the same eight criteria. Here's exactly what it is, so you can judge for yourself.
It is a $27 USD, one-time online course: 9 video lessons that teach the Four Tools for awakening and the Satya Awakening Technique™ VillyMa taught me, with a simple 10-day practice plan of about 30 minutes a day. No experience is needed, access is instant, and there's a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Above all, it focuses on what I believe matters most: gently clearing the energetic blockages within your chakras, so Kundalini can awaken and rise naturally, rather than being forced.
What it isn't: a promise of instant enlightenment, or God realization. It's a gentle, guided first step. If it isn't right for you, the criteria above will serve you well wherever you go, and everything in my Kundalini guide stays open to you.
Would You Like Me to Guide You Through Your First Steps?
If you've been searching for a simple, gentle way to begin, I'd love to help you.
I've taken the technique VillyMa taught me and created a step-by-step experience you can follow from the comfort of your own home. You don't need previous meditation experience. You don't need to understand the chakras. And you don't need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to begin.
I'll guide you through the practice, explain what you're doing and why, and help you take your first steps toward the peace, love and connection with the Divine that changed my life.
And if you feel that desire in your heart, I'd be delighted to guide you.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose a Kundalini awakening teacher?
Start by asking who taught them and whether they have experienced their own Kundalini awakening. A trustworthy Kundalini teacher honors the source of their teaching, guides gently instead of forcing, never guarantees instant awakening, takes your safety seriously, and can explain what comes after awakening, not only how to begin.
Can you awaken Kundalini through an online course?
Yes, you certainly can, though no course can guarantee awakening. A fully guided video or audio practice lets you follow along at home at your own pace. What matters most isn't the format but the approach: gentle, consistent, and based on allowing rather than forcing Kundalini to rise.
How much does a Kundalini awakening course cost?
Prices vary widely, from free introductory sessions and low-cost video courses to retreats and teacher trainings costing far more. For beginners, a low-cost course with a money-back guarantee is a sensible way to try a practice before making a larger commitment of time or money.
Is it safe to take a Kundalini course?
A gentle, guided course that focuses on clearing the chakras so Kundalini can rise naturally, and safely, is a very different thing from forceful, unguided practices. Look for a course that is focused on clearing the chakras first. That's what makes the difference between a gentle awakening and an overwhelming one.
What's the difference between a Kundalini Yoga class and a Kundalini awakening course?
Kundalini Yoga classes usually combine postures, breathwork and chanting. A Kundalini awakening course like the Satya Awakening Technique™ focuses on seated meditation, using attention, mantra, affirmations and touch to move Kundalini gently through the chakras. Both aim at awakening; choose the style that suits you.

Caleb
